Amalgamated Bank Appoints Tyler Nickerson as First Vice President to lead philanthropy banking strategy

NEW YORK — Amalgamated Bank (Nasdaq: AMAL) announced today that Tyler Nickerson has been appointed as First Vice President of Commercial Banking, effective immediately. Based in Washington, D.C., he will lead the bank’s commercial banking and strategy for its foundation and philanthropic clients.

Prior to joining Amalgamated, Tyler served as the founding director of investments and state strategy at The Solutions Project, a philanthropic and cultural campaigning initiative sparked by Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, and others working to accelerate the transition toward clean energy for all people. Tyler formerly served as a program manager at the Dyer-Ives Foundation and as founder & CEO of Motu Communications, which supported philanthropic clients in public affairs, grantmaking strategy, and evaluation. He has also led successful community-based advocacy efforts and has consulted on more than two-dozen electoral campaigns.
Tyler holds a BA with honors from Grand Valley State University and an MA in Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University. He serves as co-chair of the Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy Washington, D.C. Chapter, and on the Andrew Goodman Foundation's Millennial Advisory Council. In 2017, Tyler and his team were given an Impact Award from the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy and in 2016 he was named to the class of Midwest Energy’s 40 under 40. Tyler is a regular contributor to the Chronicle of Philanthropy and co-founder of City Built Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
