Statement from Keith Mestrich, Amalgamated Bank President & CEO, on Mario Cuomo Campaign for Economic Justice Drive for $15
Today is a great day for New York’s workers and I am so proud that Amalgamated Bank is able to play a role.
NEW YORK – This morning, in response to the Mario Cuomo Campaign for Economic Justice’s Drive for $15, Keith Mestrich, President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank, said:
“Today is a great day for New York’s workers and I am so proud that Amalgamated Bank is able to play a role. Beginning this morning, Governor Cuomo and MCCEJ Chair George Gresham, President of 1199 SEIU Healthcare Workers East, will tour the state to build support for a needed minimum wage increase. They will be joined by low wage workers, elected officials, advocates, and supporters.
"As the 'Drive for $15' makes its way across the state over the next couple of weeks, it will discuss something we already know to be true – paying our workers $15 an hour is not just the suggested minimum wage, it is a necessary living wage. Last year, Amalgamated Bank proudly became the first bank in the nation to implement a $15 minimum wage for all of its employees. We are also proud to be the bank of the Mario Cuomo Campaign for Economic Justice and funders of the organization. We thank Fight for $15 and the Mario Cuomo Campaign for Economic Justice for their never-ending leadership on this critical issue. Amalgamated Bank will continue to be with you every step of the way.”
