What is the new Climate Impact card?

The new Climate Impact Enhanced Debit Mastercard®, made from renewable resources such as corn, replaces up to 80% of fossil-based plastics found in traditional debit cards. As a fossil-free bank, it represents an exciting step forward for Amalgamated's suite of mission-aligned products and services.

Why is Amalgamated switching to a bio-sourced card?

As a bank deeply committed to net-zero operations, climate justice and curbing climate change, we believe that bold solutions are needed to transition to a just, clean economy. These solutions include our policies, investments, practices and products. With the introduction of the card, we continue that commitment.

When will the card be available?

The card will be issued to new consumer and business customers opening an account on or after March 21, 2023. For existing customers, cards will be issued to replace expiring or lost cards on a rolling basis.

Is the card available to all customers?

The card will be available to all customers beginning March 21, 2023. If you have an expiring card no action is required on your part.

I don’t have a lost or expiring card, can I still get a new card?

If your card is not near expiration and you would like to migrate to the Climate Impact Card, please visit a branch or contact our customer service team at 800.662.0860.

Will my card number change?

Your card number will remain the same. If your card is lost or stolen a new card number will be issued.

Can I make contactless payments with the card?

Yes, we are pleased to announce that contactless payments can be made with the Climate Impact card. You can also add your card to your Digital Wallet.

Can I recycle my card?

While the card is sourced from recyclable plastics, we recommend that customers consult the recycling guidelines of their local municipalities.

What is the new design of the Climate Impact card?

Our new card has a vertical orientation to make in-store transactions even easier with a streamlined chip or tap to pay experience.

Where can I use the contactless feature?

You can use the contactless feature with merchants that accept contactless payments. Please note that some merchants will require a PIN to complete the transaction.

Can I use my new Climate Impact Debit Card at ATMs?

Yes, you can use your new Climate Impact Debit/ATM card to make cash deposits, transfer money between accounts, check account balances and withdraw at Amalgamated and non-Amalgamated Bank ATMs. Fees may apply at non-Amalgamated and international ATMs.
